About the Arnold School of Public Health

The Norman J. Arnold School of Public Health (ASPH) exists to expand, dissemenate and apply the body of knowledge regarding prevention of disease, disability, and environmental degradation; promote health and well-being in diverse populations; and provide effective, efficient, and equitable health services.

 

ASPH is home to the Office for the Study of Aging (OSA, whose mission is to promote healthy aging through program development, evalutation, education/training, and research. OSA works to improve long-term care service delivery for South Carolina's older adults by providing evidence-based research information to policy makers, health care professionals and the public.

 

Among OSA's current research projects are Alzheimer's disase prevention, Alzheimer's disease among Hispanics, epidemiology of mild traumatic brain injury, active life expectancy (disparities associated with rural residence), longitudinal study of level of frailty in community long-term care clients, and understanding the social and personal aspects of faith related to health.
