TeleCon: Expanding Collaboration and Comprehensive Service Penetration 

The goal of this grant is to address inadequacies in mental health care resources for rural South Carolina residents. TeleCon is doing this by teaching health professions students to work collaboratively in interprofessional teams and provide mental health care using telehealth videoconferencing.

Telemental Health Care

In Spring 2018, nursing, social work and pharmacy students will learn and work together in a class that partners with two rural primary care clinics in Allendale and Kershaw Counties. Students will deliver mental health services to patients in their home clinics using video technology. The grant and curriculum have four goals: 

  • Improve behavioral health care accessibility
  • Improve patient care quality and outcomes
  • Promote innovative education and practice models
  • Develop a scalable model for the training and deployment of collaborative interprofessional teams
