Mary Ann Parsons Lectureship

The Center for Nursing Leadership co-sponsors the Mary Ann Parsons conference held each year with the Sigma Theta Tau, Alpha Xi chapter.

South Carolina Nursing Leadership Summit

The annual summit is held every year in the spring to bring in speakers to talk about current and emerging issues in nursing and health care. The event is sponsored by area hospitals, including Palmetto Health, Baptist and Richland; Lexington Medical Center; Providence Hospital; W.J.B. Dorn VA Hospital and the Medical University of South Carolina.

Viana McCown Lectureship

Viana McCown was appointed director of nursing at Columbia Hospital and advocated for the advancement of nursing in a four-year program. She conducted classes around the state to recruit RNs and encourage them to obtain their bachelor’s degrees. After her retirement in 1957, the Viana McCown Lectureship was established to continue her legacy of leadership throughout the nursing community. This annual event is held in partnership with Alpha Xi Chapter and the Center for Nursing Leadership and is traditionally held in the fall to coincide with USC homecoming.
