George Fetner is a composer, performer and songwriter.
He has composed pieces for orchestra, chamber groups, soloists, computers, installations, and rock band and has had works performed nationally on programs such as the North American Saxophone Alliance, the UNC Greensboro New Music Festival, and the 21 Sounds New Music Series, and by groups such as The Declassified (now Decoda), Dark in the Song, Duo Cortado, and the South Carolina Philharmonic String Quartet. He has been commissioned by the SC Philharmonic, Artista Vista, Pocket Productions, Duo Cortado, and others, as well as by performers such as Brad Edwards, Russ Zokaites, and Matt Younglove. He remains a regular contributor of new works for xMuse, USC’s Experimental Music Studio.
Fetner continues to compose and perform regularly as a soloist, and has appeared on the Southern Exposure New Music Series as an electric guitarist. He has released two albums and toured extensively as a founding member and songwriter of the rock group Pinna, and will release his first classical album of computer generated works, “Beneath the Ice,” featuring performers Jennifer Parker-Harley, Brad Edwards, Michael Harley, Stephanie Beinlich, and Andre North in early 2014.
He holds a BM in Composition from the University of South Carolina, where he studied classical guitar with Christopher Berg, composition with John Fitz Rogers, and computer music with Reginald Bain and also participated in master classes with Paul Lansky, Jacob ter Veldhuis, and Martin Bresnick. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Composition, studying with Jesse Jones.
