Center for Piano Studies

Piano programs are designed for children from age five to adults of all ages. Beginner to advanced-level students can learn in a combination of private lessons and group classes.

Piano for Children

Experiencing Music at the Piano

For kindergarteners

26 weekly 50-minute group classes, private mini-lessons, 
and two recitals
Tuition- $260 per semester

This two-semester course combines learning music fundamentals and beginning piano playing techniques in a dynamic group setting. Private mini-lessons are included during the class throughout the year.

Designed for 5-year-olds, the curriculum provides engaging music that can be played by small hands and fingers and includes learning through exploration and activity. Students perform in a mini-recital at the end of class I and are invited to perform in a formal recital at the end of class II.

To be eligible for the course, students must be enrolled in kindergarten and be able to read letters (not words) and numbers.

Student piano requirement: Acoustic piano (preferred) or 88-key digital piano
Practice requirement: 15-20 minutes a day, 5 days a week

Time to Begin

1st year of study for first and second graders

Music Tree

2nd year of study for second and third graders

26 weekly 50-minute group classes, 26 weekly 30-minute private lessons, 
and two recitals
Tuition- $546 per semester

This two-semester group class for elementary school students uses a group plus private model of instruction. Students learn all new concepts, music, and material in the group class and receive a private lesson to reinforce and provide individualized attention.

Students in both Time to Begin and Music Tree are required to participate in the semester recital. Students in Music Tree are also required to participate in CMTA Achievement Day.

To be eligible for Time to Begin, students must be enrolled in first or second grade and must be able to read simple words and write basic numbers and letters. Students with prior study may transfer into the program, pending an interview to ensure correct placement.

Practice requirement: 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week


Piano for Adults

Beginning Piano I and II

Weekly group class, 12-week semester, one hour per week
Tuition- $240 per semester

This intensive two-semester course meets in the newly renovated Group Piano Lab and provides a comprehensive introduction to piano playing. Students learn piano technique, staff reading, rhythmic reading, scales and chords and solos. The course also includes creative activities like playing from lead sheets and improvisation.

Student piano requirement: Acoustic piano (preferred) or 88-key digital piano
Practice requirement: a minimum of 30-minutes a day, 4 days a week

Recreational Music Making I and II

Weekly group class, 6-week units, one hour per week
Tuition- $90 per six-week session

If you've ever thought about learning to play the piano, this fun course is for you. The one-semester course provides an experience-based introduction into elementary playing techniques and meets in the newly renovated Group Piano Lab.

Students learn basic piano playing techniques through class activities and explore music together as a class. The course content includes learning key names, basic chords and rhythms, playing songs and improvising.
