Background

Marcelo Frias serves as director of doctoral programs. In this role, he is responsible for doctoral programs operation, execution, and support of ongoing strategic development as well as oversight of recruiting and enrollment management and student services. He also oversees operations for various international dual-degree doctoral programs.

He first joined the Moore School in 2009 as director of recruitment for graduate programs to later serve as director of recruitment and market strategy for full-time MBA programs. He later served as managing director of full-time MBA programs, overseeing programs operation, execution, and ongoing strategic development as well as domestic and international MBA admissions. In such capacity, he also led the design, implementation, and operations of international immersion programs for the International MBA program, working with universities in Mexico, France, Germany, Japan and China.

Prior to joining the Moore School, he worked in private sector organizations working in the citrus, metals, and coffee and spices industries. Throughout his career, he has focused on diverse business areas, including import/exports, market entry strategy, business analysis, global supply chain management, marketing and commodities trading and has worked in Mexico, France, and the United States. Throughout his career, he has participated in multiple professional development programs covering topics such as international logistics, leadership, coffee trading and most recently, faculty development in international business.

Frias is a native of Mexico, where he earned his undergraduate degree in International Business from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. He earned his International MBA degree with a specialization in marketing and a focus in French from the Darla Moore School of Business, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration with a focus on the relationship between cross-cultural leadership, industrial policy and transnational higher education

Research Interests

Frias’ current research interests focus on cross-cultural leadership and its relation to transnational education, impact of governmental industrial policy on internationalization of human capital, efficacy of global academic cooperation models, and the effect of globalization and deglobalization trends on higher education talent pipelines across international markets.
