My USC SOMG

New Faculty Information

Welcome to the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville. We're thrilled to have you as a member of our team. As you settle into your position, it's normal to have a lot of questions. That's why we've compiled a variety of tools and resources to support you through your first days and weeks on the job.

Please visit our faculty resources page for development aids, policies, and procedural information.

USCSOM Greenville and the Greenville Health System are committed to avoiding unnecessary conflicts of interest, and effectively managing those that are unavoidable. Faculty are expected to exercise integrity in all of their relationships, and make their departmental chairs (or appropriate supervisory contact) aware of all outside activities to identify and manage possible conflicts or appearance of conflicts. This is important with respect to teaching responsibilities to medical students, residents, peers, and other learners, as well as clinical, research or other professional activities and relationships. There are several Greenville Health System and University of South Carolina policies that cover different aspects of these commitments (see below).

Canvas, our online learning community, enables us to provide dynamic, connected educational experiences. The cloud-hosted learning management system (LMS) allows USCSOM Greenville instructors and students to deliver course materials, submit assignments and tests, view grades, and create learning activities. Additional features include full-featured mobile Apps for both iOS and Android, a global calendar, and tools that enable two-way communications between instructor and students including text, video, audio, and attachments.

USCSOM Greenville uses OASIS, online application, for clerkship and residency scheduling, rotations, and assessment You will receive an email with your OASIS login instructions

The University of South Carolina is the state’s largest university.  USC’s main campus in Columbia and seven regional campuses around the state serve more than 47,000 students.

The university is one of only 40 public universities to earn the Carnegie Foundation’s top-tier designations in research activity and community engagement. According to national publications like Kiplinger’s and U.S. News and World Report, USC’s graduate and undergraduate programs stack up against the best in the nation and around the world.

USC’s main website offers a variety of resources to introduce you to the university’s system.

In addition to general information, USC’s website provides access to VIP, the university’s Intranet where members of the students, faculty, staff, and alumni can securely access USC data. Here, you may also access mysc.edu.

Instructions are available for setting up your VIP and email.

Accessible directly through its easy-to-remember web address or VIP, MySC.edu provides a quick and easy way to login to Self Service Carolina (SSC). Here, faculty can manage personal information and perform many common, day-to-day transactions.

USCSOM Greenville and Greenville Health System require portraits be taken of new faculty for use on the school’s website and in the faculty directory.

Portraits are done by appointment only at Prisma Health Downtown (SunTrust building) located at 300 East McBee Avenue. Detailed driving directions are available upon request.

Call or email Alan Francis (contact below) with a couple dates and times you would like to come and we will confirm a date and time that the studio is available.

Visitor parking spaces are available in the surface parking lot next to the parking deck.  After turning into drive from McBee Avenue, the visitor parking is on the left side of the building.  The building elevators can be accessed by entering the back side of the building through door next to the SunTrust bank drive thru.

On the day of your portrait, it is easiest to park behind the GHS Downtown building.  Please go to the 2nd floor lobby and upon arrival, call:

Alan Francis:
Office: (864) 797-7571

For clinical staff, we do two portraits.  One in professional attire and one in a lab coat.

Professional/business attire would be coat and tie for men and solid color blouse or coat.  Preferably no busy patterns.

At this time we are shooting portraits and videos in lab coats and we have those here.

New faculty members are asked to write a brief biography for use on our website. There is great interest in learning more about the faculty that make our one-of-a-kind medical school special.

We are happy to assist with creating your biography.

Greenville Health System’s Division of Research & Scholarship sends a bi-weekly email offering information about research, grant opportunities and upcoming events. You must opt-in on the newsletter webpage to begin receiving emails.
