Bio

Background:

I love to share the story about how I became a physician, because it defines the things I am passionate about. I immigrated to the United States at the age of 4 and grew up in a community of international student families at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. My parents were both educators in India, and they instilled in me a joy of learning and teaching. I was fascinated by science from a young age, but when I was a senior in high school, my father passed away from a heart attack and my attention turned to medicine. Because no one in my family had ever been a physician, I didn’t know what obstetrics and gynecology (obgyn) was all about, until I experienced it for the first as a medical student at Northwestern University. I fell in love with obgyn and specifically Maternal-Fetal Medicine because it provides the opportunity to take care of patients with complex medical problems during pregnancy.

I joined the Obgyn Department at the Greenville Health System in 2005, after completing my fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Alabama Birmingham. As the first immigrant to become a member of the MFM Division faculty, I see tremendous opportunity to care and advocate for the diversity of peoples coming to our Greenville community. Additionally, I apply my passion for medical education by modeling how to be sensitive to patients from different cultural and social backgrounds and supporting patients in making decisions that honor life in all of its stages.

Together with my wife and three children, we are committed to our Christian faith and sharing the message of God’s love with all people. We participate in ministry programs for young professionals in the Upstate and also international medical missions.
