Dr. Sen's migraine research featured in the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology

A study led by Souvik Sen, M.D., Ph.D., USC School of Medicine chair of clinical neurology, indicates that individuals who experience migraines, a type of severe headache, with a visual disturbance or aura may have an increased risk of an irregular heartbeat called atrial fibrillation, and subsequently an increased risk of stroke. The study findings were published on Nov. 14 in an online issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

Inaugural Emerging Physician Scientist Faculty Fellows Named

Three University of South Carolina's School of Medicine (SOM) faculty members have been named the 2018-2019 Emerging Physician Scientist (EPS) Faculty Fellows.

Mazoué selected as academic chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery

John Walsh, M.D., has stepped down as academic chair of the Department of Orthopaedics to focus his energy on direct clinical care. Christopher G. Mazoué, M.D., has been selected to serve as the new chair.

Perkins focusing on AVP role; Payne promoted to assistant dean for administration and finance

Jeffrey Perkins has relinquished his roles as chief of staff and associate dean for administration and finance for the School of Medicine to focus his attention on his role as USC associate vice president for business & finance and medical business affairs (AVP). Executive Dean Les Hall selected Derek Payne to fill the new position of assistant dean for administration and finance.
