SofTest Windows Installation

Windows 7, 8, and 10 and Vista

Internet Browsers: You can only download SofTest using Firefox or Google Chrome.

System Requirements

PC Requirements

  • Operating System: 32-bit and 64-bit Versions of Windows 7, 8, 10 and Vista. Only genuine, English, French, Portuguese, Swedish, and British versions of Windows Operating Systems are supported.
  • ExamSoft does not support Tablet or Convertible devices other than Surface Pro 1, 2 & 4 and Surface 3 ( Pro and Non-Pro.
  • CPU Processor: 1.86Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo or greater RAM: highest recommended for the operating system or 2GB
  • Hard Drive: highest recommended for the operating system or 1GB of available space.
  • Internet connection for SofTest Download, Registration, Exam Download and Upload.
  • Screen Resolution must be 1024x768 or higher.
  • Adobe Reader (Version 9, 11 or DC) is required for exams containing PDF attachments.
  • Administrator level account permissions.

Surface Pro Requirements

  • Surface Pro 1, 2 & 4 and Surface 3 (Surface RT tablets are not supported).
  • External Keyboard (USB or Bluetooth) required. Bluetooth keyboards must be paired prior to launching exam.
    Hard Drive: Minimum of 10GB available space.
  • Adobe Reader XI is required for exams containing PDF attachments.
  • Internet connection for SofTest Download, Registration, Exam Download and Upload.
  • Screen Resolution must be 1920x1080.
  • Administrator level account permissions.

Download software — you will need your username and password. Don’t remember username and password? Log into http://www.sc.edu/studentemail/ (choose Columbia campus) and look for the email from the Law Registrar regarding SofTest Installation and Registration.

  1. Access website, www.examsoft.com/sclaw. This will take you to the USC School of Law — Custom Home Page screen.
  2. In the Exam Takers box enter your username/password.
  3. If you would like to change your password once you have logged in, hover the mouse over your name located in the upper right corner of the screen. Choose “My Account”.
    You cannot change your username or email address.
  4. After changing your password, click update information.
  5. Click — SofTest (located in black bar).
  6. Click — Download.
  7. Firefox: Message appears — You have chosen to open “SofTestWin11 … ” Would you like to save this file? Click Save File. Open the installer from downloads. Message appears- Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to your computer? Click yes. SofTest Install Shield Wizard will begin.
    Google Chrome: Installer file (“SofTestWin111 … ”) downloads. Click onto “SofTestWin11 … ”. Message appears- Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?
    Click Yes. Once download is complete the SofTest Install Shield Wizard will appear. Follow the steps of the Wizard.
  8. If a SofTest 11.0 window appears and ask if you would like to run .NET Framework version 4.0, click Yes. Go through all steps to fully install .NET 4.0. After .NET has fully installed, click Download SofTest.
  9. Once download is complete, SofTest will automatically open.
  10. Enter sclaw for Institution ID. In the next window, enter your username/password; note if you changed your password, you will be entering your new password — click register.
  11. Message appears — Congratulations! SofTest has registered your computer. You can now use this computer to take exams.
    Important: You have exam files available for download. Select Yes below to download now. To download later, open SofTest then click on Download Exams. Click Yes.
  12. At this point, you should receive an email to your university email account confirming your SofTest registration from support@examsoft.com. This email is for your records.
  13. The SofTest window will appear. It is automatically defaulted to the Available Exams tab. Exam files will appear in this window. Highlight your exam files and choose download. Course(s) will disappear from list once downloaded.
  14. A message will appear saying you have successfully downloaded your exam file(s). Click — OK.
  15. Click Downloaded Exams tab to verify that all exam files have been downloaded.
  16. Click done.
