The International Hospitality and Tourism Academy is a three-week experiential learning program for international students. The program is offered by University of South Carolina’s School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management, and offers three hospitality and tourism courses. Apply here.

Event Management and Planning
Taught by Dr. Miyoung Jeong, this course covers the management process of designing the event by offering a customer-based experiential event and utilizing information technology into event planning such as social media and other event planning application programs for its efficiency and effectiveness. Students are expected to be Cvent certified, one of key event management software applications. In this course, students will develop and design a small scale event, identifying all stages of event management (organizing, planning, marketing, budgeting, and implementing plans).
Revenue and Resort Management
Taught by Dr. Scott Smith, this course covers the resort concept and its modern forms, resort planning, unique resort management issues, and marketing. Different types of resorts and resort settings are covered, as well as the real estate development component. Emphasis is placed on understanding the unique business, employment, and management challenges and opportunities presented by resorts. Revenue management in the resort industry will also be covered with an emphasis on the theory and dynamics of revenue management, the implementation of capacity management, forecasting, and discounting.
Taught by Dr. Charles Partlow, this seminar is about how leaders mobilize others to get extraordinary things done. It's about the practices leaders use to transform values into actions, visions into realities, obstacles into innovations, separateness into solidarity, and risks into rewards. Practical application assignments will help you to apply leadership concepts to real-world situations.
Each course 2.5 hours / day. Course will be taught from July 3 – July 20 on a Monday through Friday schedule.
Syllabus is available upon request. USC credit not available, but college credit can be provided by home institution.
The course concludes with a two-day, overnight hospitality and tourism trip to Atlanta, Georgia! Students will get to visit premier destinations, including: Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, CNN Studios, College Football Hall of Fame, Fernbank Museum, Zoo Atlanta, outlet shopping malls, top hotels and restaurants, and more.
FEE: $4,500 (U.S.)
The fee includes lectures for two courses, accommodations, meals, refreshments, field trip transportation and facility use. On-campus accommodations are through University of South Carolina Housing and include double occupancy rooms with basic linens and furniture and free Wi-Fi. Students also receive three meals per day on campus (buffet style). Atlanta accommodations include a triple occupancy hotel room.
