Bio
Dr. Susan Alexander joined the Honors College in 2010. Susan came to us from Duke University, where she served as the Executive Director of the Transdisciplinary Prevention Research Center and held a Secondary Appointment in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience where she taught undergraduate psychology classes.
Prior to her work at Duke, Susan was responsible for the U.S. Department of Education’s Safe and Drug-Free Schools Program for South Carolina and served on national and federal advisory committees to provide assistance in the prevention of youth violence and substance abuse.
She is responsible for our Undergraduate Research Program and has a goal of helping every Honors College student engage in a research project prior to graduation. Susan supports our existing Service Learning classes, several student organizations and helps develop new classes. Susan advises across multiple disciplines. She enjoys teaching introductory research for undergraduates and continues to be interested in the prevention of adolescent substance abuse, adolescent anxiety, and ethical issues in counseling. Susan is a National Board Certified counselor and has clinical experience with children, adolescents, and families.. She was a National Endowment for the Arts Fellow and received the President's Award from the Counseling Association for Humanistic Education and Development.
Susan enjoys cooking with her husband, film maker and photographer, Larry Cameron. Susan and Larry enjoy spending time with their four daughters, getting away to McClellanville as often as they can, kayaking, and traveling. They are both alums of the University and Susan is happy to “be back home”.
