Master and Doctoral Programs

The College of Engineering and Computing offers three types of master and doctoral degrees including Master of Science, Master of Engineering and Ph.D.

The Master of Science and Ph.D. programs require independent research and a written thesis or dissertation. The Master of Engineering program is a coursework-based degree requiring advanced technical coursework in the field.

Degree Requirements

Both the Master of Science and the Master of Engineering require a minimum of 30 hours.

  • The Master of Engineering degree requires a minimum of ten, 3-hour courses and no thesis.
  • The Master of Science degree requires a minimum of eight, 3-hour courses in addition to 6-hours of thesis.
  • A majority of the credits earned must be in 700 and 800-level courses.

Ph.D. requirements may be obtained from the graduate director of each area of study. All Ph.D. programs require a research component that must be done in residence at the UofSC College of Engineering and Computing.
