The Department of Chemical Engineering offers MS, ME, and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering. The department is also part of the interdisciplinary program in Biomedical Engineering offering MS and PhD degrees. Full-time PhD students typically have their tuition paid by the department and receive a full stipend.

 

Graduate Director's Note to Prospective Students

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Chemical Engineering. I hope that you will consider the possibility of continuing your education at the graduate level here at the University of South Carolina.

Chemical Engineering research at the University of South Carolina is nationally recognized, with the Department ranked in the top twenty-five in the U.S. in terms of total federal research funding since 1998. Recent 2010 National Research Council rankings rank USC ChE #6 in the south and in the top thirty in the US.

We continue to add outstanding new faculty to strengthen existing research efforts and develop new areas. The Department of Chemical Engineering at USC has state-of-the-art facilities, a dynamic faculty, and vigorous research programs. Incentives for our Ph.D. candidates are the wide selection of research topics, full tuition waiver, and high twelve-month stipends. Full-time Ph.D. student stipends currently are in excess of $25,000 per year with tuition and partial health insurance support paid by the university. NSF Fellows and other students with similar fellowships can receive stipends totalling over $42,000 per year.
