Background

Karen Utter joined the SC-SIC staff in November 2010. Karen brings a wide range of experience and skills to SC-SIC developed over a career that has included the practice of labor and employment law and teaching numerous trainings and workshops on legal issues for non-lawyers.

Karen graduated from Kalamazoo College in Michigan with a BA in Political Science, and earned her J.D. from American University’s Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C.

As Coordinator of Programs and Research for SC-SIC, Karen develops new materials, website content and initiatives designed to assist SIC with general capacity building as well to provide technical assistance in the areas of family and community engagement and school improvement. She is currently piloting a new program, Engagement for Outcomes, that provides participating SICs with training and ongoing technical assistance in using the Getting to Outcomes™ method of program planning, implementation and evaluation to achieve results for their schools.
