Department of Physics and Astronomy

Students enjoy a roller coaster.

Clubs and Student Organizations

Our students are always looking for ways to get together and share their passion for physics and astronomy. All are welcome in these clubs and student organizations, so go ahead and join!

University of SC Society of Physics Students

We are a student-run group doing everything fun and physics under the sun. We have built a trebuchet, a Rube Goldberg machine and volunteered at the South Carolina State Museum. Check out our Facebook page for more fun activities!

You don’t have to be a physics major to join. If you like to tinker and are curious about how the world operates, join us and let’s find out together!

Astronomy Club

We are a student-run group interested in learning about and discussing astronomy.

Our weekly meetings give members the opportunity to learn about and share topics that they find interesting. Other perks of joining the club include:

  • Telescope training
  • Attending talks from guest speakers
  • Private visits to the Melton Memorial Observatory
  • Taking trips to local observatories, museums, and planetariums
  • Travel outside the city once per semester to stargaze under dark skies

All majors are welcome and there are currently no dues for joining! Check out our Facebook page for club updates and interesting astronomy articles. If you have a fascination with space or simply want to learn more about the universe, join us and let's study the cosmos together!
