Dr. Carl E. Paternite relocated to South Carolina in 2013 following his work for many years at Miami University (Ohio) as a professor and eventually a clinical psychology doctoral training program director, department chair and associate dean. While at Miami University he also directed the Center for School-Based Mental Health Programs and the Ohio Mental Health Network for School Success. Dr. Paternite has extensive experience with grant-funded and contract-funded school mental health initiatives, and he has been involved regionally and nationally for many years in efforts to promote expanded, evidence-based, school mental health practices. He has published extensively in edited books and prominent journals, and he has presented at many national and international professional meetings. As an educator and mentor for students he has directed many undergraduate honors theses, masters’ theses, and doctoral dissertations; and he has served additionally as a member on more than 100 student committees. He has particular expertise and current research, consultation and teaching interests in approaches to involve educators more fully within school mental health efforts; in public policy advocacy and moving policy to action; in school mental health workforce development issues; and in formative evaluation of school-based and school-linked programs. Dr. Paternite also is completing a six-year term (2010-2015) as a member of the American Psychological Association Commission on Accreditation, and in 2012 and 2013 he served as the commission’s Associate Chair for program review, followed by a one-year term as Chair of the commission in 2014.
