Ms. Katie Mickel earned her BA in International Affairs from the University of Georgia in 2013. While there, she earned a Spanish minor and certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. She then completed her Master of Arts in Hispanic Studies, with a concentration in Spanish Linguistics, at Louisiana State University in 2016. Her interests include foreign and second language acquisition and instruction, authentic material in the foreign language classroom, Hispanic culture, and service-learning. Katie also has experience teaching English, as she spent 6 months working as an EFL teacher in Ecuador. Prior to that, she worked with the local Hispanic community as a volunteer ESL teacher in Athens, GA. In addition, she has lived in Spain and traveled to Costa Rica and Peru. She was very happy to begin her formal career at the University of South Carolina in 2016 where she teaches Spanish at the novice level.
