ALS Durable Medical Equipment LoanerProgram
The South Carolina Chapter has an extensive growing “closet” of supportive equipment needed at times by families dealing with ALS. This includes power wheel chairs, walkers, scooters, hospital beds among other things. While the current closet is housed in Columbia, SC, we will ship any item needed to any location at no cost to the family.Criteria for Loaner Closet:
- Must have a diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease)
- Equipment is supplied on a temporary basis or until no longer needed by the PALS (Person Living with ALS)
- Live within the State of South Carolina.

dRC keeps a loan closet of durable medical equipment and consumables. These items are donated to dRC, and their availability varies. The loan closet is operated by Achieving Wheelchair Equality.
A consumer must be included on the dRC database, and must have accepted or waived an Independent Living Plan to obtain Direct Services. Consumers / caregivers will have certain basic responsibilities outlined in the ILP, such as obtaining or helping to raise some part of the funds, or agreeing to volunteer as able within their communities.

SC EDP is an outreach service of the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) in partnership with the Office of Regulatory Staff. Individuals who are experiencing difficulty using their current telephone equipment are encouraged to apply for assistive equipment through the South Carolina Equipment Distribution Program (SC EDP). This program provides telecommunications equipment at no cost to South Carolina residents with qualifying hearing, speech, blind/low vision with hearing loss or dual sensory disabilities.
