University Infrastructure Initiatives

The Office of Research and Graduate Education  is heading efforts to attract funding for university infrastructure projects such as building improvements and construction, outfitting laboratories, and campus-wide telecommunication connectivity.

The University is also working with the City of Columbia and other Midlands stakeholders to ensure collaboration on certain projects related to the Innovista Research Campus and Waterfront Park.  Sustainability and the creation of green jobs are the primary focal points of these projects.  The Sustainability and Green Jobs Initiative, formed to identify, prioritize and coordinate our region’s activities in this area, enables a “speaking with one voice” concerted action in pursuing “green revolution” benefits from meeting the short and long-term needs of our community.

Projects currently under consideration include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Increasing LightRail connectivity
  • Outfitting the Horizon I and Discovery I buildings in the Innovista
  • Assembly Street improvements within the Innovista District
  • Greene Street “Complete Street” water filtration system
