Mark Weist receives just over $2,000,000 from the SCDE
The SC Department of Education has awarded Mark Weist just over $2,000,000 to create the Behavioral Alliance of SC (BASC).
The SCDE is contracting with Dr. Weist on a 4.5 year project to create the Alliance to improve social, health, emotional, behavioral, and academic (SHEBA) functioning in South Carolina students with disabilities; reduce the achievement gap between students with and without disabilities; and to reduce the achievement gap between high versus lower need communities.
In addition to developing BASC, Dr. Weist’s team will develop a tiered approach to support the efforts of the SCDE to improve the academic outcomes of youth with emotional disabilities. Dr. Weist will offer Tier I supports through an annual conference; Tier II supports will be offered through a targeted resource repository, including webinars and other training and dissemination activities; and Tier III supports will include on-site support, training, and coaching in evidence-based practices for students with or at risk for emotional disabilities in high need schools identified by the SCDE’s Office of Special Education Services.
