Background

Dr. Cox is a family nurse practitioner certified by the ANCC.  She graduated from the University of South Carolina with her BSN, Masters, and Doctorate of Nursing Practice. She has been teaching in the graduate program for 25 years while maintaining an active clinical practice.  Her clinical experience includes provision of primary health care services in numerous settings such as private practice and clinics.  

She has seen a variety of patients with acute and chronic health problems during her 30 plus years of practice. She especially likes women’s health care issues and educating patients on health prevention/promotion. Additionally, she is active in professional organizations and College of Nursing functions. She is a long-standing member of SCNA, Sigma - Alpha Xi chapter, and serves as Vice President on the Board of Trustees for the South Carolina Nurses Foundation. She is on the educational committee of the South Carolina Nursing Education Simulation Alliance and has previously served as on the State Board of Nursing.  

Teaching

Dr. Cox has taught primarily in the graduate nurse practitioner program. Specifically, she has taught Advanced Health Assessment and the Primary care courses. She has taught Health Assessment and Foundation courses at the undergraduate level.

Research

Dr. Cox's research and scholarship has focused on job satisfaction of nurse practitioners, the homeless, breast cancer prevention, and health assessment.
