Room 111 is designed to replicate a real clinical environment for assessing vital signs. Faculty can run scenarios comfortably for groups of 5-6 students per session. Scenarios are limited to checking a variety of vital signs: blood pressure, lung sounds, bowel sounds, etc. There is no recording capability or patient monitor information. A log sheet is available for download after each session is complete.
This room is reserved in advance with all equipment and supplies needed to run the scenario requested at the time of reservation. The lab director and technician sets up all elements of the scenario prior to the scheduled time to ensure all faculty effort is directed toward running the scenario.
Although VitalSim is not as advanced as our SimMan models, faculty do have the ability to design a scenario specific to what they want the student to do. Faculty members interested in building their own scenarios should contact the lab director or technician for assistance.
VitalSim can do the following:
- Cardiac capabilities include 1400+ ECG rhythm variations.
- Pacing with or without capture.
- Defibrillation.
- Auscultation of normal and abnormal sounds including heart, breath, bowel and fetal tones.
- Blood pressure can be set to allow for realistic palpation and auscultation. Systolic and diastolic pressures, auscultatory gap and volume are variable.
- VitalSim enables palpation of carotid, brachial and radial pulses with pulse strength that varies with blood pressure.
- Instructors can play pre-recorded patient voice sounds.
- Works with adult male and female, pediatric and infant manikins and a variety of task trainers.
- VitalSim allows for creating, editing and running preprogrammed and instructor written scenarios.
- Downloadable student data logs.
