Cocky’s Reading Express is hitting the road for the holidays. As part of the Outback Bowl parade on New Year’s Eve and a library visit, University of South Carolina student volunteers, staff members and Cocky will distribute 1,000 books to children in Tampa.

The program is a collaborative effort of USC student government and the South Carolina Center for Children’s Books and Literacy, an outreach initiative of the School of Library and Information Science. Cocky and members of the USC community have visited elementary schools across South Carolina. The students read to the children, and Cocky helps the children understand the importance of life-long reading.

A number of traditions surround USC Homecoming Week, with more than one involving a special couple. Each year two fresh faces are crowned Homecoming Queen and King, while another set of familiar faces return year after year. This year Chase Mizzell and Lauren Nottoli were crowned Homecoming King and Queen, but you may or may not have noticed a special guest walking arm-in-arm with Cocky on the field at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday.

Each year at the Homecoming football game, as Cocky magically appears on the field in a cloud of smoke during 2001, his girlfriend runs out to greet him on the field. Today’s trivia question surrounds this mystery date.
