In late January, the University of South Carolina hosted an international conference that featured an array of lectures, concerts, films and performances to commemorate the 200th anniversary of German composer Richard Wagner’s birth.

Talks by more than 30 of the world’s top Wagner scholars explored various aspects of Wagner’s life, work and influence. The lectures, all filmed in high definition, are now available on YouTube for scholars, students and those interested in Wagner and cultural history.

"The WagnerWorldWide 2013 project is committed to looking at this controversial composer in new ways, and to making full use of digital and media avenues to share the results of this multi-year international undertaking freely and with the widest possible audience,” says Nicholas Vazsonyi, a professor in the department of languages, literatures and cultures who is the U.S. organizer of the international Wagner project and spearheaded the USC conference.
