USC offering online Six Sigma Certificate

The University of South Carolina is offering a New Online Six Sigma Certificate format for working professionals interested in learning process improvement skills. Six Sigma methodologies are designed to help businesses implement improvements to reduce costs and defects. Six Sigma is becoming increasingly relevant in financial services, healthcare, education, government, as well as the retail, restaurant, and food service industries.

Participants in USC’s program learn to define project goals, measure existing performance, and analyze defects to eliminate them from business processes. Professionals with a Six Sigma certification typically earn nearly 10 percent more than those without certification, according to the American Society of Quality 2004 Salary Survey.

“Since our Online Six Sigma Certificate program now features a flexible format, participants living outside the Columbia, SC area can easily complete their Six Sigma training and earn a USC certificate,” said Kate Shelton, USC Director of Continuing Education & Conferences. “As the demand for Six Sigma skills grows, so does the demand for Six Sigma Certified Professionals.”

The USC Online Six Sigma Certificate curriculum combines instructor-led and online training to help participants learn effectively from anywhere in the United States. The USC Green Belt consists of 20 hours of online education and 20 hours of live online training. While the USC Black Belt program includes 40 hours of online education and 20 hours of live online training.

The USC Online Six Sigma Black Belt Certificate will be available beginning fall 2011. Additional information can be found at www.USCSixSigma.org. Student loans are also available to those who qualify. In addition, admissions counselors are available to help future participants identify which program may be right for them.
