Opera at USC presents French fairy tale, ‘Cendrillon’
The University of South Carolina Opera will present “Cendrillon,” a French opera based on the Cinderella fairy tale, Feb. 25-27 on the Drayton Hall stage.
All shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 for general admission, $15 for seniors, faculty, staff and military and $5 for students and can be purchased by calling 803-777-0058.
“Cendrillon,” performed in French, is a four-act opera originally conceived and performed in the late 1800s in Brussels and Milan. It gained popularity across Europe and in New York City in 1912 and is still widely performed today.
Lucette, or Cendrillon, will be played by Stephanie Beinlich, a graduate student in music performance, on Feb. 25 and 27; undergraduate Kelly Alfonzo will play the character on Feb. 26. Music performance graduate students Ginger Jones and Diana Amos will play Madame de la Haltière and the fairy godmother, respectively. Doctoral student John Pritchard will play Prince Charming.
