Regional conferences call for research in health communication.

Working on health communication research? If so, there are numerous opportunities to present our findings.

Kentucky Conference on Health Communication

The 11th biennial Kentucky Conference on Health Communication invites competitive papers, posters and panel proposals to be submitted for its 2010 conference in Lexington, Kentucky. The theme for this year's conference is Health Communication Theory and Practice. Submissions should be sent electronically to kchc@lsv.uky.edu. Deadline for submission is December 13, 2009. Notification of acceptance will be sent electronically by January 15, 2010.   • Competitive Papers/Posters. Papers/Posters should be submitted in abstract form (a maximum of 500 words). A cover page should be included that provides the paper title, names of all authors and their affiliations. Abstracts will be submitted to blind peer review.
  • Panels. Panel proposals should include a list of participants and their affiliations, a brief summary of the purpose of the panel, a description of each participant's role on the panel and contact information for the panel chair.
  • Top Student Paper and Top Young Scholar Paper. Papers submitted by graduate students and by post-doctoral scholars or researchers who have received their Ph.D. within the last five years will be considered for the Top Paper awards if completed papers are submitted by February 8, 2010. To be considered for this award, papers must be submitted in abstract form by December 13, 2009.

PRSA Paper Competition

Quinnipiac University and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) announce the second annual PRSA Health Academy paper competition. The purpose of the competition is to encourage applied research of value to public relations professionals. The winner of the competition will present his/her paper at the PRSA Health Academy Spring Conference to be held in Chicago, Illinois in April of 2010. The deadline for submissions is December 14, 2009. All papers should be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word and sent to Dr. Kurt Wise, APR, Chair, Public Relations Department, School of Communications, Quinnipiac University to kurt.wise@quinnipiac.edu All guidelines should be directed to Dr. Wise. The winner of the competition will be announced in February 2010.

  • Competitive Papers. Papers might address such issues as hospital public relations, pharmaceutical public relations medical public relations, health policy, health management, medical-device manufacturing public relations or current trends in healthcare. Professionals, doctoral students candidates, master's students/ candidates or faculty members are all eligible to submit papers. Papers may be solo-authored or co-authored. Papers should be 15-30 pages (including references), double-spaced in Times New Roman in 12-point font. A panel of reviewers including academics and members of the PRSA Health Academy Board will judge papers. Among the factors judges will consider: usefulness of the paper to working professionals, clarity, writing quality, and contribution to the public relations body of knowledge.
