Now Accepting Applications for E-Source Editor

The editor has primary responsibility for the development of E-Source content (i.e., soliciting, reviewing, and selecting manuscripts for publication) and works closely with the Assistant Director for Publications who oversees final production of E-Source and marketing E-Source to potential contributors. The appointment is for a three-year term (i.e., nine issues of E-Source. The editor will receive travel support to the National Conference on Students in Transition and to the Annual Conference on The First-Year Experience each year during his/her term. to download the complete position description.

Our August issue highlights two eclectic approaches to first-year seminars: one drawing inspiration from song lyrics, and another introducing students to dance and theater as part of a common reading. Also, learn about a liberal arts institution that developed a professional advising model for incoming students; an international bridge program for first-year students studying abroad, and a program that gears collaborative study sessions for at-risk students.

Christina Hardin served as a tenured English instructor at Valencia College in Orlando, Florida, for 10 years. In addition to this position, she served the college in a number of roles, including director of the New Student Experience, Faculty Association president, and division coordinator for communications at Osceola Campus; lead representative for the college’s English assessment work; faculty leader for Quality Enhancement Plan development, and faculty leader of the PRESS for Completion grant. In addition to her work at Valencia, she has served the National Resource Center as the editor for E-Source for College Transitions for three years and as a faculty member for the First Year Experience Institute. Hardin holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s in English language arts education for community college teaching, and a doctorate of education in curriculum and instruction from the University of Central Florida. She also earned graduate certificates in community college education and professional writing. Hardin has presented at state and national conferences in the areas of assessment, faculty development, epistemic and ability beliefs, and academic achievement.
