Federal Direct Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note

Who should use this page?

Stafford Loan borrowers who have not yet signed a promissory note with the William D. Ford Direct Stafford Loan Program. Your lender will be the U.S. Department of Education.

What is a Master Promissory Note?

The Master Promissory Note (MPN) is a binding, legal document outlining the terms and conditions of your Federal Direct Stafford Loan.

Do I need to sign one?

All students who want to receive a Federal Direct Stafford Loan must sign a MPN with the William D. Ford Direct Stafford Loan Program.

How can I sign my promissory note?

Click here and sign in with your U.S. Department of Education PIN to sign your new Master Promissory Note.

Important: You may have already signed a MPN with another lender for a loan received prior to Fall 2010. If you would like to receive a loan for Fall 2010 and future semesters, you must sign a new promissory note with the William D. Ford Direct Loan Program.
