Frequently Asked Questions |
Scholarship Suspension and/or Termination of
University Scholarships |
| Q. When does the University check grades for scholarship
recipients? |
| A. The University checks cumulative grades following the
end of the Spring semester. |
| Q. May I appeal the suspension and/or termination of my
scholarship? |
|
A. No, eligibility for scholarship renewal is determined
solely by the maintenance of a 3.00 USC system GPA. Extenuating
circumstances are not taken into consideration. |
| Q. What if I have a grade change pending or incomplete
grade that once changed would raise my USC system GPA to 3.00 or
higher? |
|
A. If you have a pending grade change or incomplete grade
that once changed would result in meeting scholarship renewal
requirements, you must provide documentation of this situation to
the Financial Aid Office before the beginning of the Fall semester or your scholarship will be terminated. Documentation must
include a letter from the instructor, your academic advisor or from
your Dean and a letter from you explaining the circumstances. The
grade change or incomplete grade must be updated by the University
Registrar by the end of the Fall semester. |
| Q. Do I have to attend Summer School at USC-Columbia or
one of the USC system campuses in order to raise my USC system GPA
to a 3.00 or higher? |
|
A. Yes, only coursework taken within the USC system
impacts the renewal criteria for your scholarship. If you take
courses outside of the USC system, such courses will not assist you
in raising your USC system GPA. |
| Q. I have a 2.95 USC system GPA. Could the University
round my GPA up to a 3.00 so that I can retain my scholarship? |
|
A. No, the University does not round up your USC system
GPA. You must have a minimum 3.00 USC system GPA in order to have
your scholarship renewed. |
| Q. I am a non-resident student who pays the reduced
tuition charge in addition to receiving a scholarship. Will I retain
this reduced tuition charge even if I lose my scholarship? |
|
A. No, eligibility for the reduced tuition charge is
contingent upon your receipt of a University sponsored scholarship
valued at $250 or more per semester. If your scholarship is
terminated, your reduced tuition charge is terminated as well.
|
| Q. I know that I cannot regain a 3.00 USC system GPA by
the end of the summer. Can I regain my General University
scholarship sometime down the road if I regain a 3.00 USC system GPA
at that time? |
|
A. No, if your General University scholarship is
terminated, you will never be eligible to regain that particular
scholarship. However, you may qualify for departmental or need-based
scholarships at a later date in the same manner as other currently
enrolled students. |
