THE
FIRST INTERNATIONAL HOME MOVIE DAY
in COLUMBIA, SC
When
and Where?
SATURDAY, AUGUST 16TH
The Nickelodeon (937 Main St.) 12 noon
AND
The Art Bar (1211 Park St.) 8:30 pm
What is HOME MOVIE DAY?
This 8/16 is the first worldwide event organized by amateur film lovers
to celebrate those wonderful home movies shot on celluloid. Whether on
8mm, Super-8 or 16mm (get it? 8/16?) the amateur film heritage of our
homes, hometowns and travels is rich – and fun, funny, funky. We’ll
project films on a screen for all to see. See rare films shot all over
the world throughout the mid 20th century.
What
Can I Do?
Bring in your 8 and 16mm films (no video, please). Whether it’s
stuff you found in your grandparents’ attic or bought at a flea
market, we will show it. In addition to watching these films, you’ll
get advice about how to take care of them.
Why
HOME MOVIE DAY?
Home movies are the essential record of our past. HOME MOVIE DAY screenings
will happen in communities across the globe, each focusing on the local
histories revealed there. Columbia’s events will occur simultaneously
with those in Toronto and Tokyo, Seattle and Miami, Portland, Maine and
Portland, Oregon. Learn about the simple pleasures of small films. Don't
throw away those films! Your originals can outlast video. Devotees will
be on hand to help you care for your celluloid.
