Civil and Environmental Engineering

Civil and environmental engineers build bridges, dams, and highways; improve the environmental quality of air, water, and soils; and design water systems that support our communities. They work ona new frontier in new infrastructure designs to withstand hurricanes and earthquakes.

Civil and environmental engineering is the analysis, planning, design, and construction of projects and systems that define a civilization. It is the buildings in which we live and work, the roads on which we travel, the water we drink, the bridges we cross, and the land on which we live. There are many complex areas in this engineering field, but the end result is simple: Civil and environmental engineers build landmarks that stand as tributes to the profession’s creative spirit and ingenuity.
