As you can see, the use of a group lockout box ensures that the equipment remains locked/tagged until every mechanic has completed their work on the boiler. Only after the last mechanic has removed their lock and tag from the lockout box, is the supervisor able to remove the locks from the boiler. Another question that is frequently asked is "Under what circumstances can I remove a lock that does not belong to me?" The first answer to this question would be NEVER, but there is one unique situation in which a authorized employee may remove a lock/tag that does not belong to them. This situation is discussed on the next page.
