Step 2
If your initial application indicates that you may be qualified, you will be asked to provide the following information to complete the application process:
- Resume
- Statement of Interest.
This is a 1-2 page essay that explains why you want to participate in the Pi Fellowship program. Please describe your career aspirations in research and teaching and how you believe the Pi program will influence these. Include descriptions of any previous formal or informal teaching experience and/or experience working with children. - Lesson Plan Concept Paper.
Please review the South Carolina science curriculum standards for grades 6-8 (see http://www.myscschools.com/offices/cso/standards/). Select one standard you are most interested in facilitating, explain why and describe in detail an activity you could do in the classroom. - Letter of Support.
A letter of support from your USC research advisor is required, and can be included with this application or sent to me separately by your advisor. This is not a letter of recommendation. The letter of support should acknowledge the time commitment. It should describe how your advisor will interact with you during this time, as well as any other expectations he or she may have regarding your progress towards degree. The letter must also state that the advisor agrees to visit your K-12 classroom at least once while you are there. For example, advisors can give demonstrations, discuss their research, answer questions about being a professor, or just observe you teaching. If you do not have a research advisor, please call me to discuss your situation prior to completing Part II of the application. - Signed Expectations Agreement.
Prior to accepting a Pi Fellowship, you must agree to all of the responsibilities outlined in the Expectations for Pi Fellows respectively. Please indicate your acceptance by returning a signed copy of that document and remember to keep a copy for your reference.
Step 3
Screening of your application will include an interview and evaluation by the selection committee.
