Taylor/Tomlin Award for Investigative Journalism

Student Comments
  • Although I am a Public Relations major, I found this presentation interesting because it really conveyed the interaction between the media and a corporation.
  • It was interesting to hear about a real life example of investigative reporting with DHEC that actually could make a difference.
  • John Monk made some good points on examples of investigative journalism and how it affects the debate on an issue. Also I learned basic and fundamental rules and guidelines for reporting and investigation.
  • The points brought up about investigative journalism were very informative. I didn’t realize how hard it was to get people to speak about controversial issues. Their work shouldn’t go unnoticed. The allusion to cavemen and hunting scouts helps describe investigative journalism. Interesting that Abe Lincoln was a closet investigative journalist.
  • I thought the presentation was very informative and helpful to know for my major. They kept my attention. They were great!
  • I think the work that they did was very interesting. The time and effort that they put into the DHEC investigation was worthwhile and very important.
  • I really enjoyed the presentation. It allowed me to see a side of journalism that otherwise I would not have known much about. I think it is very interesting.
