Standing on the deck of the USS Yorktown, Charleston native Royce Breland doesn’t notice the obstinate wind that meddles with his hair.
As interim director and chief financial officer for Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum, Breland never tires of touring the World War II aircraft carrier or of talking about the Patriots Point Development Authority.
“Patriots Point is one of the area’s biggest visitor draws and one of the state’s biggest assets,” said Breland, who received a BS in business administration from Carolina in 1976. “Visitors come primarily to see the five ships that are docked here, and to see the new Congressional Medal of Honor Museum. We get 225,000 to 230,000 paid visitors a year and another 22,000 overnight campers a year.”
