Dynamic duo stars on the court and in the classroom
Before joining the Gamecock women's basketball team, Demetress Adams and Brionna Dickerson were among the top high school players in the state. At Lee Central High School in Bishopville, the 6'3" Adams was named the No. 31 senior and No. 10 post player in the nation by All-Star Girls Report. At Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia, the 5'9" Dickerson was averaging an astounding 40 points per game. And both women soared when it came to grades and class standing.
Adams was salutatorian at Lee Central and received numerous scholarship offers. Now that she's at Carolina, she plans to earn a psychology degree from Carolina and then enroll in law school. Eventually, she'd like to open her own law firm.
"I am very excited to come to USC because it is a great school in a great location and a great city," Adams said. "Academically, South Carolina does a great job of keeping its players focused on grades and keeping them on the right track in the classroom."
Dickerson also was presented with scholarship offers from numerous schools. She chose to remain in her hometown, study business, and enroll in the Honors College at Carolina.
"The Honors College is right on the level of the Ivy League schools," Dickerson said. "That is one of the main reasons why I came to USC. It gives me an Ivy League experience with the opportunity to stay at home."
The Carolina women's basketball team is the 15th tallest team in the country and 5th tallest in the SEC.
