Frequently Asked Questions

Here's a handy guide for many of the questions we're commonly asked:

For Freshmen Applicants:

When should I apply?
Application deadlines change each year, so make sure you keep up to date! Our Early Answer Application Deadline is non-binding, so you're not restricted in applying to other schools. Apply by this date, and you'll hear back from the Admissions Office in December. There's no advantage to applying early; just some peace of mind in getting an application done. If you meet our Priority Application Deadline, you'll receive full consideration for University scholarships. If you're interested in the Honors College, make sure to meet that application deadline.

How can I get a scholarship?
Make sure to apply by the Priority Application of December 1 and have all of your required credentials submitted by February 1. Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of test scores and GPA. Review Money Matters for information about each available award.

What majors does USC offer?
We have more than 75 majors, ranging from engineering to English! Click here for a comprehensive list.

For Transfer Applicants

What GPA do I need to transfer?
Most majors require a 2.25 cumulative GPA to transfer, but some do require higher GPAs and specific courses. As long as you have 30 or more college credit hours (excluding remedial courses), we will evaluate you based solely on your college work. If you have less than 30 hours, we will also need your final high school transcript and test scores.

What if I attended USC previously and then went to another college?
You must meet transfer requirements for the non-USC work and readmit requirements for prior USC work. You will be evaluated first on your transfer work and then subsequently on your USC work. If your USC work is below requirements, you may be able to petition for readmission.

What if I want to transfer from another University of South Carolina Campus?
There are certain specific steps you'll need to take and special application you should complete. Do not submit a transfer or readmit application. Make sure you follow the steps listed here.
