Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies

If you don't know exactly what career you want to pursue when you graduate, Liberal Studies is a flexible program that fosters critical thinking skills that are valuable in many different fields.  

 

The Palmetto College Online Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies is issued by USC Columbia.

Overview

Businesses and organizations need employees who can write and speak clearly, manage and solve problems and function creatively and effectively in the real world. Your Liberal Studies degree will prepare you for success in these critical areas through a multidisciplinary program you will design with an experienced advisor. The degree allows you to address your interests, offering the opportunity for study in one of two fields: social and behavioral sciences or arts and humanities.

The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies degree requires 120 hours. In addition to general education and elective requirements, students will earn 27 hours in their major option. Students will earn 12 hours in a concentration area different from their major. All students in this program also must take South Carolina studies, complete an internship and take a senior capstone course.

Prerequisites & Requirements

Students must have 60 hours of previous college credit to apply for this online degree program. If you haven't earned your hours yet, you can do so at any of our Palmetto College campuses statewide, or at any technical college. Major requirements available online: 48 hours
GPA: 2.25 (on a 4.0 scale)

 

Program Length

If you’re a full-time student, the program should take about two years—the same as if you were attending class in-person. If you work, you may need to take a lighter course load.

We strongly encourage you to submit all official credentials within two weeks of applying.

Spring 2018 – 16 weeks (Classes begin January 16, 2018): November I 2017 for transfers and readmits. Transcripts for all completed coursework through Summer 2017 (and any other required materials) must be received by December 1, 2017. Fall 2017 coursework must be received by December 18, 2017.December 1 2017 for change of campus/system transfers only. If you are not a change of campus/system transfer student, you are eligible to apply for Spring II, Summer or Fall 2018.

Spring I 2018 – 8 weeks (Classes begin January 16, 2018): November I 2017 for transfers and readmits. Transcripts for all completed coursework through Summer 2017 (and any other required materials) must be received by December 1, 2017. Fall 2017 coursework must be received by December 18, 2017.December 1 2017 for change of campus/system transfers only. If you are not a change of campus/system transfer student, you are eligible to apply for Spring II, Summer or Fall 2018.

SPRING II 2018 (Classes begin March 19, 2018): February 15 2018 for transfers and readmits. Transcripts for all completed coursework (and any other required materials) must be received by February 28, 2018. March 1 2018 for change of campus/system transfers. If you are not a change of campus/system transfer student, you are eligible to apply for Summer or Fall 2018.

Summer I 2018 - (Classes begin May 14, 2018): April 1 2018 for transfers and readmits. Transcripts for all completed work (and other required materials) must be received by April 1, 2018. May 1 2018 If you are not a change of campus/system transfer student, you are eligible to apply for Fall 2018.

Summer II 2018 - (Classes beginning July 9, 2018): June 1 2018 for all student types. Transcripts for all completed work (and other required materials) must be received by May 1, 2018.
