Dr. Helen Doerpinghaus is the Interim Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the University of South Carolina.
In her role as Senior Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies, she led the development and launch of the Carolina Core, USC's general education program; USC Connect, the University's within and beyond the classroom integrated learning initiative; the Carolina Leadership Initiative; and the University Advisors Network. She continues to oversee these programs as well as the First-Year Reading Experience, the living and learning communities, the Office of Fellowship and Scholars Programs, and the Center for Teaching Excellence.
The offices for Academic Programs and Institutional Research and Assessment report to her as Senior Vice Provost. She oversees University accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and ensures compliance with policies of the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (CHE).
Dr. Doerpinghaus received her bachelor degree in English and History from Macalester College and her graduate degrees in business at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. As a Finance Professor in the Darla Moore School of Business she has published numerous scholar articles and co-authored a text on risk management and insurance. She received USC's Michael J. Mungo Award for teaching excellence, served on the editorial board of the Journal of Risk and Insurance, and is a past president of the American Risk and Insurance Association.
