Our Leadership

As the state’s flagship university, the University of South Carolina is governed by a board of trustees appointed by the governor and state lawmakers.

In addition, the university's leadership includes board-approved officers responsible for management and oversight of academics, research, finances, giving, technology, human resources, student affairs, communications and the greater university system.

President Michael Amiridis

Michael Amiridis became the 30th president of the University of South Carolina on July 1, 2022. Before he served as chancellor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, he was executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of South Carolina from 2009 to 2015.

Board of Trustees

The board includes the governor, the state education superintendent, 16 members appointed by state lawmakers from each of the state’s judicial circuits and the president of the Alumni Association. The governor has an appointee and usually designates someone to fill the governor’s seat on the board.
