Carolina Tech Zone

The Carolina Tech Zone provides hands-on technology support for all students. Our services include connecting to the network, installing software, diagnosing computer problems, removing viruses, providing mobile support and more.

Carolina Tech Zone Hours

The Carolina Tech Zone is a hands-on technology support center for students located on the first floor of the Byrnes building, 901 Sumter Street, Suite 119 - right across from the Horseshoe. Technicians can assist with a variety of issues, as outlined in the chart below. The service is completely free for students.

Monday - Friday:  9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

The Carolina Tech Zone will be closed for student holidays.

Gamecock iHub

The Carolina Tech Zone is conveniently located next door to the Gamecock iHub, the University of South Carolina’s Apple Authorized Campus Store serving students, faculty and staff members, and alumni. 

The Gamecock iHub will be closed for student holidays.

Connect to the Internet

We’ll connect your computer to the campus wireless and wired networks. If you are having problems connecting or staying connected, we’ll make sure your network settings are correct.

Operating System Setup

We can set up your Windows, Mac or Linux system to make sure it is receiving the proper updates and is configured properly. We can also optimize your computer for peak performance.

Virus Protection & Spyware Removal

We can install and configure antivirus software and remove viruses and spyware. 

Software Assistance

We can install Microsoft Office, antivirus software, and other university-supported software.

Mobile Device Support

We support a variety of mobile devices including Android, Apple iOS (iPhone, iPod, iPad), Windows, and Blackberry. We can connect your mobile device to the wireless network and set up your email.

Computer Diagnostics

We can perform diagnostics on your ailing computer to determine if the problem is software, hardware or virus-related. Extensive hardware or software issues may be referred to the manufacturer.

Technology Education

After seeing how these tools work and how the technicians set up your computer, you will have a better idea of what to do in the future. We'll show you ways to keep your computer clean and practice safe online habits. You may even learn how to help other students!
