Scholar Programs

The Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs (OFSP) was established in 1994 to provide innovative educational initiatives for exceptional students. OFSP is the home base for Carolina, Stamps, McNair, Hamilton, and Horseshoe Scholars. Top Scholars are provided advisement and support on a full and vibrant array of high-impact opportunities that distinguish them as the University’s top achievers.

The Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs also oversees the application process for nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships, a natural fit for all Top Scholars. OFSP educates students on the application cycle for a variety of scholarships and supports students throughout their application process. Top Scholars receive holistic fellowships advising throughout their four years at Carolina. To learn more about the OFSP, visit their website.

Calendar of Events

Each semester, Scholars are provided a calendar of events to enrich their academic, professional, and co-curricular experience at Carolina. Freshmen and Sophomores are provided one-on-one holistic advisement sessions, while more attention is given to national fellowships advisement for Juniors and Seniors. Each Fall semester, Scholars are invited to many events, including a tailgate with the President. Spring dinners celebrating the scholars and donors are the highlight of the year. Scholars United, the student organization for Top Scholars, organizes social events and service projects, as well as the Last Lecture Series, to build the Scholar community and let off a little steam. Students especially enjoy the Etiquette Dinner, which prepares students for the formal events they are invited to each year.

First Year Scholar Program

The First Year Scholars program is a unique offering for all of our incoming Top Scholars. Freshmen attend an orientation and ropes course retreat. Stamps, Carolina and McNair Scholars are paired with a Faculty mentor, while all freshmen are paired with an upperclassman Scholar Buddy who can answer questions and guide students throughout their time at Carolina. These programs are an invaluable resource for Top Scholars which often lead to campus involvement, research opportunities and internships.
