Student Disability Resource Center

Register With Us

Students who have been accepted to the university and require access to disability-related accommodations and support will need to officially register with the Student Disability Resource Center (SDRC).

Students must submit an application(apply) and supportive documentation to SDRC for the coordination and approval of accommodations.

Who Should Apply?

SDRC provides academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities including but not limited to:

  • ADD/ADHD
  • Learning Disabilities (e.g. dyslexia, dyscalculia, reading, written expression)
  • Mental Health Conditions (e.g. depression, anxiety, PTSD)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
  • Chronic Health Conditions (e.g. diabetes, Crohn’s, migraines)
  • D/deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Blind/Low Vision
  • Physical Disabilities (e.g. epilepsy, cerebral palsy, musculoskeletal conditions)

You should consider applying if you:

  • have been admitted as a student to the University of South Carolina-Columbia campus
  • have a documented disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities
  • had an IEP, 504, or similar accommodations plan in high school
  • are a client of Vocational Rehabilitation, Commission for the Blind, or other similar agency
  • were previously registered with disability services at another college, university, or other educationl setting.

You can register with the center at any time.

Registration is not limited to the beginning of a semester, however, you cannot register retroactively for grades during a previous semester.

Your application cannot be reviewed until the SDRC has both your completed application and qualifying documentation. The application process is NOT completed immediately and can take at least 2-3 weeks to complete so please begin the process as early as possible.

**Note: During high volume times such as late summer, pre-midterms, or pre-finals, etc... may result in longer processing and orientation scheduling times**

Decisions regarding disability-specific accommodations are made on a case by case basis. Review the accommodations that are most often provided.

University Applications

  • SDRC is NOT involved in the university admissions process. We work with students after they have been admitted to the university.
  • We cannot help you get admitted to the university if your GPA or SAT/GRE scores are too low, or help you get in a specific program at USC.
  • Disability is not considered in the admissions process. Students may choose to share information related to disabilities in admissions essays.
  • Any information, documentation, or disability related paperwork sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions about your disability will NOT be forwarded to SDRC. You must submit required documentation to the Student Disability Resource Center to apply for accommodations.
