Financial Aid and Scholarships

Federal Perkins Loan

Do you have exceptional need? Are your funds limited? The competition for this loan is extremely high, but you may still qualify.

The Federal Perkins Loan is a long-term educational loan program available to both undergraduate and graduate students with exceptional need. Funding is very limited and is provided by the federal government. The interest rate is fixed at 5 percent. Interest is paid by the federal government while the student is enrolled at least half time. There are no loan origination fees. Repayment does not begin until nine months after your enrollment drops below half time.

Annual and Aggregate Loan Limits

Award amounts are variable and are determined annually by the office. Undergraduate students at USC may receive up to $3,000 for the year.

Note: The Federal Perkins Loan program will end on September 30, 2017. Any undisbursed Perkins loan funds will be cancelled and returned to the Department of Education with no option for reinstatement. If you have questions regarding your 2017-18 Perkins Loan, please contact our office. For questions regarding repayment of your Perkins Loan, please contact ECSI Heartland at 1-888-549-3274.
