Who should take this course?

Students generally take the ACT during their high school career. This course is ideal for high school students who may be taking the test for the first time and for those high school students who have already taken the exam but wish to improve their scores.

The ACT Summer Institute is ideal for students that need an intensive preparation program during the summer. The summer institute is delivered consecutively and requires students to continue to practice their skills in the weeks and months leading up to the exam. Students are expected to actively participate in class and in the online review sessions. 

About the Course

In our ACT Summer Institute, our expert instructors guide you through each section of the ACT exam and provide personal attention in and out of the classroom. This intensive summer prep course features instruction from an ACT test preparation expert and extensive online review tools. Our comprehensive program emphasizes the ACT test components: Test Taking Strategies, Question Formats, Math, English, Reading Comprehension, and Science Reasoning.

This affordable and comprehensive course is offered online with a live instructor and a live classroom. The course includes 20 hours of education from a subject matter expert with over five years of teaching experience.  

Students receive in-depth review of the exam materials, insight into strategies for succeeding on standardized tests, and a comprehensive study plan. Class sessions use real test questions to show just how these skills are tested. The course fee includes all classroom and online sessions and course materials.

As part of your course program fee, you will receive:

• 20 hours of expert classroom instruction.
• The textbook - The Official ACT Prep Guide and a workbook provided on the first day of class.
• Real ACT practice questions and tests.
• Easy-to-follow study plan.
• Four (4) hours of live-online review sessions that will be held in before the first test date. Access to online office hours and recorded review sessions.

Course Topics

Session 1 — Introduction to the ACT, English-punctuation and verbs; Math-picking numbers.
Session 2 — English-pronouns, clauses and phrases, logical transitions; Math-advanced picking numbers, equations and inequalities.
Session 3 — English-items with special instructions; Math-exponents, fractions and probability.
Session 4 — Reading comprehension; Math-word problems, averages, and percents.
Session 5 — Science reasoning-data representation; Math-rates and proportions.
Session 6 — Science reason- research summary; Math- geometry lines, angles and triangles.
Session 7 — Science reasoning- conflicting viewpoints; Math- polygons, circles, and combinations.
Session 8 — English/Reading/Science review; Writing; Math-coordinate geometry and functions, and trigonometry.

Online review tools will help you stay at your peak

All of the ACT Summer Institutes include online tools to help you perform your best on test day. Live online review sessions are held in the weeks leading up to the fall ACT test dates. Weekly online office hours also provide a convenient way for you to address specific questions or concerns that you may have. In addition, you will have access to pre-recorded lectures, quizzes and assignments, and a ACT discussion forum. You need only have high-speed access to the internet, speakers, and Adobe Flash Player to participate in the online sessions—no additional software is required. 

Live Online Review Sessions

The interactive, one-hour online review sessions allow you to participate and ask questions of our expert test prep instructors. The live-online review sessions are also recorded—so you can still benefit even if your schedule doesn’t allow live participation. Review sessions will be scheduled between the end of your course and the fall test dates.

Online office Hours

Online office hours are free-form meetings open to any student in an ACT Summer Institute. Instructors will be available to answer any questions that you might have. The sessions are “drop-in” sessions and are student-directed, meaning that there will not be a planned presentation each session. Our instructors will answer questions and work through problems in the order that they are received. 

I found this course to be very beneficial. The instructor helped me understand ways to approach the questions and explained how to answer questions that I struggled with.
