Group Exercise

Group exercise classes are available at the Strom Thurmond Center and Blatt Center to members with group exercise passes. Get details about class types, schedules, purchasing passes and guidelines for participating.

Class Change

Yoga on Friday, April 20 at 3 p.m. will be changed to PLYOGA.
What: PLYOGA blends high-intensity intervals with yoga poses as active recovery. This class tests your endurance, strength, flexibility and balance. Come try something new! We promise you'll feel energized and centered at the end!
When: Friday, April 20, 3 p.m.

Barre Above® Master Class

Barre on Saturday, April 21 will be moved from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. What: Barre Above® is coming in to host a Master Class for us! Barre Above® is a fusion of the best of pilates, yoga, aerobics, and elements of the strengthening exercises dancers do. Barre Above® delivers a results-driven workout that is not only fun and dynamic, but it will sculpt your body and get you into absolutely amazing shape.
When: Saturday, April 21 at 11:30 a.m.
Where: Strom 127
Who: Free to anyone with a Carolina Card and access into the Strom
 

GLOWGA

What: Join us for an outdoor yoga class with glowsticks and a little flair on the normal vinyasa style. We can't think of a better way to finish off a Monday evening!
Date: Monday, April 23
Time: 7:45-8:45 p.m.
Where: Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center - on the patio/field by the outdoor pool. You must enter the outdoor pool area and then you'll see us!
Who: Free to anyone with a Carolina Card and access into Strom
What to Bring: Feel free to bring a yoga mat, a water bottle, and your neon colors. (We have extra yoga mats if you don't have one)
How: Registration is appreciated, but drop-ins are welcome. 

Spring Into Fitness Group X Challenge

What: Challenge yourself to try something new! If you start to get bored with your workout routine, it's probably because you're not mixing it up enough. Try some new Group X classes for a chance to win some prizes! When: April 9-April 27
Who: Anyone with a Group X pass
How:

  • Pick up a "Challenge Card" from any instructor during a class that you attend anytime on or after April 9.
  • Collect a sticker from the instructor during the class and place it next to the corresponding class format that you attended. You must attend nine of the listed classes to be entered into the giveway (you must attend nine unique types of classes - i.e. you can only collect one sticker for each type of class that you attend).
  • You can earn one additional entry into the giveaway for each additional class format that you attend over nine. Max amount of entries you can earn are seven (which would be if you attended all 15 types of classes/events).
  • Return your card to any instructor by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 27.
  • We made a typo on the Challenge Card and forgot Zumba/Cardio Hip Hop. These classes definitely still count, so please just write those formats on the back, claim your sticker when you attend, and count it as one of the formats that you attended.

Giveaway: There will be multiple prize winners! Some prizes include future Group X passes, UnderArmour Gear, Water Bottles, other workout gear, and more!

Group Exercise Passes

Group passes and signed waivers are required for members who wish to attend group exercise classes. Passes cost $20 per semester ($10 in the summer) and can be purchased online or at the Blatt or Strom business offices with cash, check, or CarolinaCash, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Who can take group exercise classes?

You will be asked by an instructor to type in your VIP number at the beginning of each class to verify that you have purchased your group exercise pass.

Members of the Blatt Center
Guests and dependents under the age of 16 cannot take classes.

Members of the Strom Thurmond Center
Guests cannot take classes.

 

Group Class Guidelines

  • Classes are First-Come, First-Served
  • Arriving Late – No one will be allowed to enter a class more than five minutes after the start time due to safety concerns.
  • Class Times are Subject to Change – All schedules are subject to change. Classes may be cancelled temporarily and permanently based on low attendance or other reasons.
  • What to Bring to Class
    • You must present your group exercise pass.
    • Bring water and a towel to each class.
    • Participants must wear athletic footwear, with the exception of those in yoga, Pilates, or barre classes.
  • Personal Belongings – Place your belongings in daily lockers. Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Cell Phones and Electronics – Using your iPod, cell phone or other personal electronics is prohibited during class.
