State of the University

On September 14, President Harris Pastides delivered the 2016 State of the University Address to a large crowd of faculty, staff and students, discussing his vision for being a global university in the 21st century.

Held each fall, the State of the University Address is delivered by President Harris Pastides, and sets the stage for the coming academic year. Rousing tunes played by the Mighty Sound of the Southeast greet the crowd and set the stage for President Pastides to share his vision, which reinforces the University of South Carolina's strategic goals that are built upon our four pillars — research, superior student experience, flexible models for access and affordability, and South Carolina's economic and overall wellbeing.

2016 State of the University Address

In the 2016 address, President Pastides expressed optimism as he shared the progress we've made on our strategic plan. The resounding theme, however, was how the University of South Carolina — the flagship system of the state — will establish ourselves as THE University that defines the 21st century for South Carolina.

Through academic excellence in areas like health sciences, information, technology and global studies, Carolina is making a substantial impact to the vibrancy and economic stability of our state and across the globe. From housing the #1 Honors College in the country to developing innovative programs like On Your Time and Welcome Table SC, we are pushing the boundaries of higher education and preparing our students to be leaders in the 21st century global workforce.
