Celebrate your graduate at our upcoming commencement on Monday, December 12. Here
are some details to make your time on campus enjoyable and hassle free.
Baccalaureate, Masters and Professional Ceremony
When: 2:30 p.m., Monday, December 18, 2016
Where: Colonial Life Arena
The president of the University of South Carolina presides over this official ceremony,
which includes Carolina’s time-honored tradition of honoring each degree candidate
by name. During the ceremony, graduation candidates from all eight campuses will be
personally congratulated for their accomplishment by the president and the dean of
the graduate’s college or school. The ceremony usually takes around 2 to 2 ½ hours.
Beginning 30 minutes before the ceremony, find live broadcast on Facebook.
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will be the guest speaker. After receiving degrees from Stanford University, the University
of Oxford’s Magdalen College and Harvard Law School, Breyer taught at Harvard from
1967 to 1994. He also held several other prominent positions before being nominated
to the Supreme Court by President Bill Clinton in 1994. He authored the 2010 book
“Making Our Democracy Work.”
Location and Parking
Metered, street parking near the Colonial Life Arena will be very limited. There are two large parking lots within walking distance of the Colonial Life Arena and parking is also available
in the nearby Discovery Garage. Accessible parking is available in most, if not all, of these lots for those with
a state-issued disability pass, sticker or license plate.
